They say you can’t keep a good man down and this is especially true for Mr Andy Lim.
When he was 45, Andy had a heart attack and although he made a full recovery, it was clear to him that he had to make fitness a priority. Now at 61, Andy continues to be as active as ever.
He has hosted over 70 tennis games using the Rovo App and although circuit breaker has put a stop to that, he has taken to joining Rovo’s free WorkoutParty! yoga and fitness sessions to keep himself active.
We speak to this truly inspirational figure and find out more about him.
Hi Andy, tell us a bit about yourself
I'm a 61 years old retired freelance tennis coach. I’m married with 2 boys and I love tennis! I had a heart attack at the young age of 45 and I’ve been dedicated to keeping fit since.
What do you normally do to stay fit?
Before CB, I was hosting tennis games 3 times a week, coaching 3 days a week and swimming on Sundays to relax.
Wow. That’s a lot of activity! Covid-19 and Circuit Breaker must be really affecting you.
Yes! I miss playing and coaching tennis so much. It’s really tough that I can’t do all that now.
What are your fitness goals?
Nothing specific really. Just to stay healthy and fit to continue to enjoy tennis as long as possible.
What are some of the challenges of working out from home and how do you stay motivated?
Working out alone can be a little boring. I try and stay connected with friends and relatives. I also push myself to workout, hit some balls or jog every day to have a good sweat.
How did you find out about these free Workoutparty! sessions on Rovo?
Since I can’t play tennis, I got really bored and started checking out other Rovo activities and stumbled on the WorkoutParty! sessions on Rovo.
You have attended some Yoga and Fitness sessions so far. How has the WorkoutParty! sessions been for you so far?
I’ve attended a few yoga and fitness sessions now. The digital trainer is very helpful while the live trainers were great with their interaction that kept me motivated to go all the way though it was quite challenging at times.
What would you like to see more of on the WorkoutParty! and Rovo App?
I would love to see if you could have workouts that can help tennis players. That would be really great. Perhaps some strength and flexibility exercises that top tennis players can do off the court. Recreational players don't spend enough time training off the court so now is a very good time to do it at home.
Would you recommend others to try WorkoutParty?
Of course! I've already shared what I did with my friends and I hope they will join me soon.
Any advice for other people who are working out at home during this Circuit Breaker?
Try something different to get out of your comfort zone. You will be surprised with the experience.
Thank you Andy for talking to us. You are truly an inspiration and we hope to follow your example and stay fit and active even as we get older! Keep up the good work Andy!
Join our free daily WorkoutParty! Sessions on the Rovo App from now till 1 June and you may bump into Andy! If you do, remember to say hi to him!
